The Sporcle  Live winter/spring  season  wraps up next week. A few bars  have some close races for first place with a mere 3 points  dividing teams at Salt Springs Brewery  in Saline, six points  dividing  Haymaker  teams (Wednesday)  and 11 points  dividing  teams at Tio’s. Even  our  old “haunt” Corner Brewery  has teams Your Resume Sucks and Ennui divided  by 22 points.

As for my team, we played the most games  at Original  Gravity (7) and Sticks (six times each on Mondays  and Thursdays).  And not all of those spots were equal in terms of scores – mainly because of the different  players I tended  to have in the mix on each different  night.

Here are our “average” scores per night for each of these spots:

• Original  Gravity, 90
• Sticks (Monday), 110.5
• Sticks (Thursday), 117.5

Brad plays  with us Mondays  at Sticks, Evan plays with us Thursdays  at Sticks and the OG games pretty much featured  just my husband  and I, maybe Dave for a couple  of games and on one night I had both  Dave and Evan (our highest OG score of the season that night, 125 points).  I think  Evan played twice at OG.

Having the right players  in the mix makes all the difference! Which means we can’t  win a tournament  spot  at OG anymore, especially with  the current  Sporcle format. But  that’s…OK! If I want  to bring my team to tournaments, I have to do games  on nights that work for my players – and at places where  we can succeed against  the other teams.

Which means next season, we’ll  play Mondays at Sticks – and also Thursdays, when mine and Evan’s schedules allow. Me, Mike and Evan tend to do very  well as a trio and can more than hold our own Thursday  nights  at Sticks. Plus, there is a “team to beat,” which I will not utter  by name in any trivia post again (hey it’s  my blog and my editorial  decision ), but will describe  by the initials TC. We’re always at our best when we have  a “team to beat.” Which is one reason  I’ll really  miss playing  at OG!

The new ” occasional” spot we’ll  be playing  – The Owl   – will have to help fill the “gap” left by stopping our OG games (it’s  in the same town). We’ll be there next Wednesday! Though  it might  be just  the  two of us.
