I’ll be traveling and getting ready to travel this coming weekend, so I got in touch with my trivia team and let them know what’s in store for next week’s trivial pursuits!
Our normal “team” trivia night is Monday, though our game will be canceled for Memorial Day. Our “B” team night Thursday won’t work either – I’ll be playing an 80s music theme night and have to work early Friday. Tuesday we’ll just be getting back into town, so…
Wednesday, then?
I have invited the team to join Mike and I at The Owl in Milan. Mike really wants to check out this place (IKR)? Mr. “I hate trivia” excited about a new trivia spot (lol)! Yes, he claims to hate trivia, but spends quite a lot of time taking quizzes on the Sporcle site!
I’ve invited three others, but will be surprised if we can get even one more player joining us.
I have no plans to schedule weekly games here – Mondays and Thursdays will remain as our “regular” trivia nights, though Wednesday may occasionally be subbed on weeks where Thursdays won’t work.
Tomorrow (May 23) I plan to play at OG for one last time. Just me – I have not invited anyone else. After this last night, I won’t be inviting my team to play here again, unless it’s a “special” engagement (such as girls trivia nights). We had a good run playing here, and it’s time to give it up!
I’ll never forget the one on one trivia battles I would occasionally have with other soloists there in 2016 and 2017 ( both of whom play with teams now). I still think there is no better test of a trivia player’s mettle than going out on your own – even if just occasionally.
I think a trivia tournament with team maxes of 1 would be interesting! Or a “just two” tourney. A duo tournament would REALLY make you think about who your best trivia partner would be. Would it be your significant other? Or someone else? I’ve played with many other different players as duos before besides my “regular” partner Mike, including Kim, Brad, Dave, Evan and Stacy.
Ideally, an ideal trivia partner is strong in categories in which you are weak (and vice versa). They should also have a good idea what things you know about (and vice versa). I teamed up up with one other player unofficially in a semifinal game once with… very interesting results! It was quite the “experiment.” Aside from neither of us knowing the final question we did…quite well!
There really are some great trivia soloists and duos out there. These days, the magic minimum # for our team to do really well is three.
Well, that’s about it for now! Next trivia recap will be Friday…
