We only managed to get out for one tent camping trip in 2018, mainly because of too-hot weather, replacing our AC/furnace and other annoyances. When we were able to “escape” for a tent camping trip, it was in August, 2018 at Fishermans Island State Park. This rustic campground is located in Charlevoix, MI on the shores of Lake Michigan. I know I posted a blog about it, but I’m too lazy to look for it now…
It looks like we’ll be camping in Michigan’s U.P. this coming May! My brother finally set a date for his daughter’s graduation party, which will be on Memorial Day. My husband and I will pitch our tent at Twin Lakes State Park, which is about a half hour’s drive from my brother’s home. Sites cost about $20 per night, which is far cheaper than a motel room or an Air Bnb booking! Plus, you can’t legally have a campfire in your room at the Super 8! Tell that to Keith Moon in The Who (lol)!
This is a modern campground, so we’ll have flush toilets/showers/electricity.
Camping that time of year in the U.P. could be chilly, but we’ll bring extra blankets. It will be nice to have our own little “retreat” during a family oriented weekend of activities. I love my family…but sometimes I’m not “in love” with them!
Another trip we have planned in May is our “popup camper” trip. We’ll be renting a popup camper in a state park located on Michigan’s west coast. I’ve never camped in a popup before, so I’m looking forward to that!
I’m fighting some real “cabin fever” right now and am itching to get outside!
