I’ve just reviewed all of the songs that have made the “cut” on my recent fitness walks. All of them were picked randomly. Hmmm…maybe now that I’ve seen what all of these songs are, I would be able to make an actual “walking playlist!” But that whole idea just seems so…offensive to me. I love the randomness of the “shuffle” button too much! I kind of like being surprised.
Some artists that have been played more than twice since I started doing regular walks in early January include New Order (6X), nine inch nails (6X), Cat Stevens (4X), Guns ‘n Roses (4X), Fleetwood Mac (4X), Beastie Boys (3X), Faith No More (3X) and Blondie (3X). The Chain by Fleetwood Mac appears to be the only song that appears twice on this list. The driving guitar toward the end of the song is great for keeping my steps going (here’s to you, Lindsay Buckingham – one of most underrated guitarists in rock ‘n roll, IMHO)!

WORD!
As for “genres?” Rock and pop seem to be the predominant ones in this list, though there are some “harder” songs on this list, too Worlock by Skinny Puppy is an industrial track, just about everything by nine inch nails is on the “harder” side, Van Halen and Guns ‘n Roses songs are listed and Rage Against The Machine is essentially “musical caffeine.” On the lighter side of things, disco tracks do kind of have a tendency to…not get skipped by me. NO APOLOGIES! Disco really helps keep me steppin’!
What does the word “shuffle” make me think of?

The Jump ‘n the Saddle Band had a #15 Billboard Hot 100 hit with The Curly Shuffle, which was an homage to the Three Stooges. When I was in high school jazz ensemble, we had to PLAY this song! What the HELL was band director Mr. Kot thinking? No, I do not own a mp3 of this song, though as far as “novelty” songs go, I do have a German techno version of the Sesame Street “Rubber Ducky” song (both German people I’ve played it for have gotten smiles on their faces). I downloaded that one from Napster many, many moons ago. Another “novelty” song I own is Steve Martin’s King Tut. I skip this one when it comes up during my walks…it’s just TOO silly! My brother used to have the 45 single of that song.
