My trivia team played in two trivia leagues for a couple of years beginning in February, 2016 but temporarily put a stop to that earlier this fall and focused just on one trivia league – Sporcle Live. We decided to put My Trivia Live games on hold until further notice, after abandoning our efforts to qualify at a local bar after playing four games.
Starting next week? The MTL games will be back on the menu! We’re going to start playing MTL games on Thursday nights, which means the trivia games at Original Gravity will be put on hold until the MTL season is finished. We’ll have to see how it goes. Sometimes a trivia spot doesn’t work out, and after a few weeks, trivia gets called off.
If the MTL season lasts 15 weeks, this means it could run until the first week in March. That’s when we’ll have to make our decision to stick with this new spot, or go back to Original Gravity – which is a place we’ve traditionally only played in the non-winter months. It’s way too early to predict anything.
In summation, this means we’re going to continue playing Tuesdays at Tower Inn during the Sporcle Live off-season and most likely stay there when the new season begins in January. We’ll also be “trying out” the Thursday MTL spot. If it doesn’t look like it will be a “winnable” spot for tournament purposes, we’ll probably abandon ship. We’ll probably also abandon ship if the prizes can only be used on food or some crap like that (I don’t pay my players to eat, I pay ’em to drink).
Trivia craziness is on the horizon! The first event will be the Sporcle Live league championship Saturday, Dec. 1. In the MTL leagues, the semifinal and finals tournaments will be on the following weeks (Dec. 8 and Dec. 15). I am SO surprised one of those didn’t wind up being on same day as the Sporcle Live finals (which happened in 2016). I’ll have a team at the Sporcle Live finals, but not in the MTL finals this time. Though if a MTL player happens to contact me asking me to help out their team, I’ll see what I can do! I also may consider “sitting in” one of the semifinal games as a spectator if they are close enough to home. I doubt I’ll go to the finals game unless a team needs me to play (who knows…someone might be THAT desperate)!
Speaking of craziness, Sporcle Live will be changing things quite a bit when their new season begins in January. No details have been announced yet, but they have posted a “blurb” on their page, which you can read by clicking here.
Our next scheduled trivia game is Tuesday, so our next recap will be posted here on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
As for other blogs? I’ll have to see if any inspiration strikes me! Right now, I’m enjoying some down time after my hellish work week!
I had thought about doing a “Small Business Saturday” blog and talk about offbeat businesses one could give their money to today. But that’s probably not in the cards. All I’m going to say is go to your local dive bar, pay a babysitter to watch your kids (babysitting is a small business, after all), maybe buy some weed from your friendly local dealer. Or visit a dispensary if you have your medical marijuana card (the town in which I live has dispensaries, I’m pretty sure they’re all “small businesses”). Maybe your local titty bar isn’t part of a big chain, which would make that a “small business,” too! Visit your local titty bar! Pay a visit to your local liquor store – you know the one where the clerk sits behind Plexiglass? I have a couple of liquor stores close to me, one has the Plexiglass, the other one doesn’t. Which does not imply that the non-Plexiglass liquor store is in a safer area by any means! It might just mean it hasn’t been robbed yet (I honestly don’t know how these things work).
Let’s see, what would be another “small business?” Oh yes, the world’s oldest profession! And that’s all I’m gonna say about THAT!
