Whose Bright Idea Was It To NOT Include Spare Tires With Vehicles?

My husband and I bought a Chevy Malibu in March, 2017, and so far, we’ve been very, very happy with it. Great gas mileage, enough storage space to take it camping, comfortable ride, etc. However…there was one thing that kind of bugged me from the very beginning – Chevy vehicles don’t come with spare tires anymore. Except maybe the SUVs/trucks. And that’s never been an issue…until today!

We noticed one of our tires had a leak last night. And this morning, the PSI had dropped to 11! My husband inflated the tire and moved the car out of the garage. Because we bought a 10-year tire warranty when we bought our car, we had to get Sylvia (that’s our car’s name) to the dealership. And since we have just one car…that meant a ride in a tow truck! Even if we pumped up that tire, we did not want to risk driving on a tire leaking that rapidly, especially on highways.

We have a AAA membership that provides virtually unlimited towing (it’s saved our bacon more times than we can count). They also give jump starts, unlock doors and bring a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts to stranded motorists. OK, I’m just kidding about that last AAA perk! But wouldn’t it be nice?

As much fun as it was to ride with Eric the tow truck driver on this lovely Saturday morning? We’d much rather put a spare on Sylvia and take a slow drive into the dealership. Are we becoming more helpless as a society? Does Chevy think because they use the OnStar service that people aren’t still going to know how to do stuff with their cars? Might be a fair assumption, considering how helpless people seem to be becoming these days. Most people wouldn’t know how to live if they weren’t using an app on their iPhones telling them how to do it (JK)!

Really, it could be worse. We’re not at the side of the road. And I’m not late for my Black Friday shift at work (that happened several years ago). The seats are comfy  here at the dealership and there is a TV show about otters to watch!
