All Gloves Were Off In Thursday’s Game At Original Gravity!

Since it’s too late in the Sporcle Live trivia season for my team to be in contention anyway…I decided to sign in under my trivia team’s league number Thursday  night at Original Gravity. I won’t know how we did until later today, but I have a feeling I won’t be TOO disappointed! I’ll post a recap of that game later this afternoon.

The “brains” of the team calling themselves “Mind the Gap” (aka Big Heads Big Hearts)” didn’t show up until around the end of game one tonight. I wound up beating them in game one by virtue of a “sucker’s bet” in game one (wagering zero on a “recent video games” final question about Sonic the Hedgehog). I also wound up beating the team This is Sparta, who were rocking a perfect game heading into the final (after what they’ve been through lately…they deserved to have a perfect game)!

I didn’t even stick around to hear – or answer the question! I stepped outside to take a little break – give my husband a call.

However, I think they bested me in game two…In fact, I KNOW they did! Dammit…the final category was “scientists,” for which I wagered a mere 7 points, which would have put me in first had I gotten it – and “Mind the Gap” missed and wagered nothing. However, my wager of minimal points and their wager of full points allowed them to win game 2! Me wagering full points would not have put me in the prize zone (oh well, can’t win ’em all).

It was still a fun night overall! I took a couple of “newbies” under my wing in game one (telling them the newsletter answer, clue answer, and spotting them one mystery round answer in game one). Turns out this cute couple only recently moved to Milan, MI! I encouraged them to sign up for the trivia league, yada yada. In game two, another random dude was sitting near me, and I (ahem) “recruited” him to try helping me with a MLB question, which involved the baseball stats of Edwin Diaz. So I proceeded to name as many MLB stats as I could (RBIs, perfect games, strikeouts, stolen bases), and he confirmed whether or not they “could” be correct (he had a passing knowledge of baseball, but didn’t know who that player was or what position he played). His face kind of lit up up when I mentioned “stolen bases,” so I wound up going with that, but missed it. Had to wager 4 since I’d already burned my other low point slips!

I’m really glad I came out for this game! It was fun meeting some new people…and winning just about enough prize money to cover my tab!
