I’d toyed with the idea of going out for a trivia game tonight, but nah…
I’m really, really enjoying the “fly casual” trivia plan in ways you can’t even imagine! No commitments, no tiresome routines, no worries about scores/prizes, no excessive effort rounding up players, no stress. It feels good to have cut negative trivia hosts/trivia spots loose, too.
The “tentative” plan next week is to play Wednesday and Thursday. My goal Thursday is to try to win a little beer money for “Project Oktoberfest.” The bar I’ll be playing that night (Original Gravity) has an Oktoberfest celebration planned the following Saturday. I want to go – especially if this gorgeous, chilly fall weather continues. Last year, it was too hot for most Oktoberfest parties. Fuck hot weather after Labor Day!
Speaking of, I enjoyed a very, very nice hike today at Brighton Recreation Area. There is nothing like a vigorous hike in the woods to really, really clear your head. Once the endorphins kick in and you hit that “sweet” spot, everything just kind of melts away. And there you are – in the middle of the woods, feeling the breezes, scratching at that spot on your shoulder where a bug tried biting through your shirt (why aren’t they all dead yet), hearing the branches creaking, listening intently to the various forest critters chattering away about whatever it is they chatter about (nuts, predators, who knows) and watching colors on some of the trees turn from green to orange/red. Even if only for a brief period of time – nothing else matters. It’s “forest therapy.” We were cheated out of autumn last year, and this year it looks like Mother Nature is giving us some nice, brisk weather! Bring it, baby…

Me with Little Appleton Lake in the background at Brighton Recreation Area. This is a small lake (really not that much more than a pond) that only accommodates kayaks, rowboats – anything you can carry by hand to the launch. The bigger Appleton Lake close by has a motorized boat launch. Other than hearing a critter splashing around in the water, we didn’t see any boats out there today.
