From Now On, We’re Strictly a “Play For Beer Money” Trivia Team

My trivia team is no longer playing for potential tournament spots. Yes, you read that right, and it’s NOT April Fool’s Day! As of today, we’re officially taking our act on the road…

Where will the trivia trails take us? Me hiking at LeFurge Nature Preserve in Superior Township, MI north of Ypsilanti.

One of my players told me last night that he doesn’t want to play Mondays at Powell’s anymore. After giving it some thought, my husband and I decided to just call off the rest of the season there – unless we feel like playing for cheap beer, beer money, fun. We’re not interested in the “grind” of playing in any one place every week unless it’s a place my husband and I want to visit. The occasional solo games will continue at some of my “favorite” spots.

This will open the door for us to be able to do what we used to do when we “barhopped” –  and check out different trivia spots. Only we won’t be getting into the insanity of barhopping and playing more than 1-2 times a week – wherever and whenever – WE feel like playing!

It’s just become too difficult to try nailing down a spot where I can summon a “team” to play regularly. My obsession with/love of trivia isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so the trivia recaps will continue! This will open the door for my husband and I to visit some bars we’ve never visited before – or re-visit spots we haven’t visited for years. We’ll keep our options open and most importantly, we won’t get too bored…or burned out!

As a “teaser,” we plan to visit the ROC bar in Plymouth on Wednesday. I’ve already visited that bar for its “Face the Music” nights, so I’m familiar with the bar and the TJ (trivia host). He’s a pretty mellow guy with a nice on-mic voice (and encyclopedic music knowledge, LOL). Plus, the drive out there is peaceful, and the drink prices won’t break the bank. As an added bonus, the 7 p.m. start time works well with my early morning work schedule!

I will still try to get out to the MTL semifinals/finals if my schedule allows, but just as a spectator (and to write the recap) – unless I hear about a team needing a player, then I’ll (oh all right) twist my arm! I’m just not interested in trying to hustle teams of my own for tournaments anymore. Besides, I’m really the only player on my team who cares whether we make it to tournaments, anyway.

I’ve always had a bit of “wanderlust” about me and I love traveling. Why not parlay that wanderlust into my trivial pursuits? Why not start exploring the trivial “seas” right now like my trivia team’s cephalopod mascot? Oooh, let’s do! Go Pods!
