We’ve Already Had One “Applicant!”

comeplaywithusmeme.jpg

I posted a “help wanted” blurb on the Facebook page earlier today. We’re seeking players 40 years of age and older for MTL trivia tournaments on Aug. 18 and 25. I didn’t think it would make too much sense to do the post on here, since there is no means for readers to apply for the job/interact with me on this site – unless they are WordPress users and comment on the post.

Here is the post, copied and pasted:

“The ‘Pods are hiring! We are always looking to expand our “knowledge army,” and are looking for one person who can play in a couple of My Trivia Live tournament games in August. The times/dates are noon Saturday, Aug. 18 and noon Saturday, Aug. 25 (locations TBD). If we get any “applicants,” we hope to make our decision by the end of this month or by the beginning of August. Location is SE MI/metro Detroit.

Qualifications:

1. Preferably be 40 years of age or older (MTL questions skew older than Sporcle Live questions).
2. Have at least two years’ experience playing pub trivia games in any trivia league and ideally, tournament games.
3. Preferred knowledge areas include but are not limited to: business/industry, computers/technology/Internet, current events, politics, sports and more.
4. Be able to at least lip-synch our team’s fight song or hum a few bars and fake it
5. Own a purple, green or black shirt to wear to tournaments (or something with Cthulhu/Lovecraft theme on it).

Compensation:
Players playing in semifinals and finals with us will get a share of any money won should we make it to finals. Percentage will depend upon how much money we win. Top prize may be split five ways, with possible “bonuses” going to players going above and beyond in the final tournament game. Lesser cash prizes will be split four ways.

How to apply:
Send a message to this page or either admin of this page. Please be prepared to describe your trivia knowledge areas, especially if you are a player with whom we are not already familiar. Unknown/unfamiliar players may need to attend a local “tryout” game. Singing auditions are optional, but not required anymore! What are you waiting for? Come play with one of the strangest trivia teams in Michigan! We’re not just a trivia team – we’re a cult!”

Since I know there are some trivia players in the loop who read these posts… here’s an update. Ahem… I had an interested “applicant” message me earlier. Though he is more than qualified for the “job,” and will be able to forgo the tryout/audition process (playing in a local game to test him out), I told him I wanted to give this about 10 days or so to see whom else comes forward. I think it’s a smart move. Why not try to get the best person for the job? I have a pretty good eye for trivia talent, after all!

This could turn out to be kind of fun! Have players come to ME for a change! After all  of the begging, bribing, borrowing I’ve done with players for tournaments in the past – maybe it’s time for a change!
