A Possible “Field Correspondent?”

I learned at my trivia spot Monday night that one of the fellow trivia “regulars” has been reading this blog! This person who made me hip to this fact is not someone I’m friends with on Facebook, though may be someone who follows or just “stalks” my trivia team’s Facebook page. It’s all fine and good – I wouldn’t be writing these blogs and doing the Facebook posts if I didn’t want anyone to read ’em, would I? It just came as a bit of a surprise. I’ve only “personally” invited a handful of people to this blog, though I have left links to it in a few Facebook posts. There was that one time I had trouble doing Facebook posts, so I just shared a link to this blog so that all of the trivia nerds could read the most recent trivia recap!

I chatted with this guy a little bit, and remembered that he typed up questions from a tournament we did not attend in October, 2017 which I wound up sharing. So I kind of “hinted” that whenever my team doesn’t qualify for finals, could he go “up to bat” and write down/type up the questions? And he kind of agreed that he would. It’s a win-win for everyone – just because my team can’t go to every tournament, that shouldn’t mean people don’t get to read a game recap – does it?

I already kind of have another “field correspondent,” who plays in the Sporcle Live league on a Toledo team. If he is ever in a tournament or plays a night that we don’t – and he posts the questions, I’ll share ’em around like a cheap hooker both here – and on the Facebook page.

It’s good to know I’ve made some connections in the My Trivia Live league! My team has only been playing in this league for a couple of years now, so I’ve been trying to learn ‘who’s who.” Develop sources, keep an ear to the ground, and stay on top of my “beat,” if you will! I used to work as a journalist, so pub trivia has kind of turned into my unofficial beat! It’s way more fun than the police beat – I don’t have to be on call, I get to drink on the job and I don’t have to listen to a police scanner. Though I have to admit it was kind of fun looking at the police blotters – reading DUI reports was especially fun. You have no idea how many people will tell a cop they only had a “couple of drinks,” yet blow a .10 or higher on a Breathalyzer test.  Hmmm….

Now if only the trivia “beat” was a paid gig! Only if we win enough prize money, (LOL)! I get to keep $30 of the $100 prize we won in the ’80s movies trivia night last week. My husband has generously offered to let me keep his “cut” of the prize money, though he does want to get reimbursed for the $25 entry fee. Fair enough! The rest of it we have to share with the other players who joined me.

As Sonny and Cher sang, “The beat goes on…and on…and on….” My team’s next trivia outing is Thursday, where we will play the last “regulation” game of the season at Original Gravity Brewing Co. in Milan. My goal is to move up to second place in the standings, which will put us in a decent position for next week’s deciding “venue tournament.”

I said to my husband last night that I was actually looking forward to the upcoming “bye” weeks. Though I’m still not sure he believes me! 🙂 This brings to mind another Go-Gos image…
