We have two trivia tournaments in August, and I’ve decided that rather than trying to round up the “usual suspects,” I want to mix things up a bit this time. I’m happy with the trio of myself, Mike and Brad, but I would like to try finding a different “fourth” this time. I do have a guy named Archie on “reserve,” and he has helped us in MTL games in the past. And while I’m not unhappy with his “services,” if you will…I guess I’m just feeling the “itch.” I also have a guy named David C., who helped us win our first place tournament about a year ago (though for the record, all of us teamed up well on the answers in that game, he was not really a significant help). I’m not ruling out having him help us again, but I’m not really sure I’m going to be asking him to join us this time. Though if he offers, I’ll certainly take it under consideration!
I’ll be keeping an ear to the ground, of course! My “spidey senses” are still tingling about a possible shakeup in one of the local trivia teams, which may occur if a new player is added to a longtime barhop player’s finals lineup (he gets a “free pass” to finals through barhop). He has made a (literal) name for himself playing most trivia games by himself for years, but about a month ago or so he was spotted playing as a duo with another female player, and has been doing this a few nights a week. I honestly don’t care about the whys or wherefores here. He can play with whomever he wants. Do what you gotta do to win. I don’t happen to like the player he’s been playing with very much, though I do try to “play nice” with her, just because we run in the same circles. I kid, of course! Trivia players don’t tend to do too much “running,” lol! Well, maybe a quick trot to hand in answer slips at last call (I digress). There is no way in hell I would ever have her on my trivia team. She gives off way too much of a ” bitch” vibe, and she had the audacity to question me when I was rattling off some shit about when/where the singer Falco died (of course I wound up being right). I know celebrity deaths, dammit! It’s one of my obsessions!

Austrian singer Falco is best known for his hit song “Rock Me Amadeus,” but also originally recorded the 1981 Austrian #1 single “Der Kommissar,” which was made more famous by the band After The Fire. His version is MUCH better (imho), since it’s in German! He died in the Dominican Republic in 1998, as the result of a car accident. Jeebus…he was SO hot! But then I am a sucker for a man wearing a leather jacket, lol…And did you know he had absolute pitch? That’s a musician superpower…
All of that said? If this guy winds up adding her to his tournament lineup and he has to pink slip any of his other players? I want them to talk to ME if they don’t have another option! Well, except that “one guy” my husband hates!
Sigh. I’m not counting on being able to find anyone different from whom I’ve already used in previous MTL tournaments. But damn… it’s fun to fancy myself a “trivia talent scout!” 🙂
