We had an “intrepid soloist” representing us in Saturday’s Sporcle Live game at Oscar’s Sports & Grill (thanks Evan)! We hear he got a first place in game one…the rest of our team decided to stick close to home Saturday night, and we witnessed a brutal fight happening in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town. For inquiring minds, the short story is a drunk, angry, racist man went afoul of some others who did not share or appreciate his opinions and also did not appreciate being spit upon – and reacted violently. In a nutshell, he had the living shit beaten out of him. I was kind of torn between feeling like the guy got what he deserved and being concerned whether or not he would survive his attack (he appeared to be knocked unconscious). I did see him move his arms/legs after a bit… Police/emergency personnel were called to the scene, and it did appear the man survived the attack. I have not seen anything about this in the news…I did kind of go into “journalist mode” and talked to people on the scene, although I did not attempt to talk to any of the police/emergency personnel or the bar staff. Maybe I missed an opportunity to do a free-lance story! I was pretty much halfway in the bag at this point, however!

Sometimes you just have a sixth sense about people. The guy who had the shit beaten out of him was giving off all kinds of toxic vibes at Aubree’s, and continued to do so when he went outside. We delayed going to our car because we worried we would run into him. Moods were very high among the people along Cross Street on this night, and we even chatted with a couple of friends whom we hadn’t seen for a few months. And then this happened…
