We had a substitute host at our trivia game last night at Original Gravity. And I don’t think she was a very experienced one, since her grasp of Excel seemed a little…lacking. Most trivia hosts will happily show you total scores for the night once the game is finished, but she only seemed to want to/be able to show scores for individual games. That’s akin to being a dick tease for hard-core trivia junkies!
Here are the standings for the night:
- Miskatonic University Fighting Cephalopods (my team): 121 points (15 league points)
- Big Heads Big Hearts: 117 points (12 league points)
- This is Sparta: 104 points (9 league points)
- Where’s Trey – 77 points (3 league points)
Cumulative bar standings:
- Big Heads Big Hearts – 124 league points
- This Is Sparta – 111 league points
- Miskatonic University Fighting Cephalopods – 106 league points
- Where’s Trey – 98 points
Our best hope at this point is to try to finish in second in the overall standings and we have just one more week to do it! We have no chance of overtaking BHBH, unfortunately. We made a solid push toward the end of the season to move up the “charts” and we need nothing less than a really good hit “song” to do it! Speaking of songs, I sang one song at a karaoke joint last night – it was a number one hit for a female Canadian artist in 1990 and was inspired by Elvis. I’m pretty sure she was a “one-hit-wonder.” Here’s a pic of her and her ’80s hair (and don’t look at her boobs – you have a filthy mind 🙂 )

I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging or nothin’, but I NAILED that song and think for a brief moment, I had some of the other barflies believing what I had to sing! People were singing along with me, and a super drunk guy at the bar kept leering at me like I was singing it just for him (nothing like the power of delusion combined with ample amounts of booze). It broke up the monotony of the seemingly endless string of R&B songs that women kept stepping up the mic and singing (yawn they ALL sound alike to me). I kept thinking, “Someone needs to do a good white girl song, dammit – BESIDES Alanis Morrissette.” I’ll have to put that one on my list of “go-to” karaoke songs – it was very fun to sing! It was a nice mix of “croonability” with enough “belt it out” parts to really get the attention of the audience. Here are some lyrics:
“Up in Memphis
The music’s like a heatwave
White lightning
Bound to drive you wild
Mama’s baby’s in the heart of every schoolgirl
“Love Me Tender” leaves ’em cryin’ in the aisle.”
Now go listen to that song! She has what my husband says is a “f— me voice!” LOL….
