I assembled a team to play an ’80s movies trivia night tonight and we won first place/$100. But there were plenty of jokes from the other players on my team that I could have just fielded a team of one tonight (awww shucks I love you guys)! Maybe, maybe…it was still fun having a “posse!” And there were a few questions tonight that left me utterly clueless that I would not have known on my own!! Including this one, which is pictured below…

Going into the game, I knew there were some good trivia contenders in the room! One of whom was sitting by us, and he said, Are you guys the ‘Pods?” I refrained from using my standard snarky “Who wants to know?” response and said “Why yes, we are.” And I later learned that that the guy was a player with the Moops, whom are a good (that’s putting it mildly) Michigan team. He was not playing with his regular team, but as a “ringer” with another team. And I had only met this guy in person once before, which was at a NTN showdown at Buffalo Wild Wings Ypsilanti in November, 2015.
Later I asked the guy, “So what’s your name? I know you are not Rob or Jamie…” Keep in mind I had a good idea who he was… He said, “I’m J.J.” I paused a bit and said, “Have you previously been known by another name?” And he said, “Yes, Yankee.” I joked, “So you have a ‘real’ name, then?” He was a guy who previously followed my trivia team’s page on FB, and someone I was formerly friends with on Facebook, so I knew who he was, just wanted confirmation. And I knew he would provide good competition! Game on! Fresh meat, yay!
Another player I recognized in the room as being a “contender” was a guy my husband has referred to as “Beardo.” He’s a…bearded perennial grad student who plays as a ringer with at least a couple of teams, including his own. And he may or may not use deodorant or…bathe regularly, as some of my teammates have complained. So going into this game, I knew I had some good competition in the room!
