The Final Trivia “Laps” Are Upon Us! Who Will Finish First?

We have four games to go in the Sporcle Live trivia season. We’ve been playing weekly at one spot – Original Gravity Brewing Co. in Milan – and “part time” at Oscar’s Sports and Grill in Saline. Our goal is to win a tournament spot at “OG,” but if necessary, we will vie for a spot at Oscar’s. We got off to a bit of a rocky start at “OG,” with most of the beginning games played by  just me and my husband, or in one case, just me. Last week, I managed to put together a team of five women, and we kicked some butt! We finished first for the night, and got the 15 league points we desperately needed to push us up in the standings a bit.

Competition has been very good! This is Sparta is still sitting on top of the heap, with Big Heads Big Hearts not far behind. We’re still in fourth, but have slightly narrowed the gap between us and team Where’s Trey. These last four games need to go well for us, but my biggest concern is the final venue tournament game.

Tonight, I’ll also have five players, but not the same ones as last week! In another interesting development, I’ve managed to book a player named Kimberly to join us tonight and at our July 12 and July 19 games. She’s very easygoing and is a seasoned player, and we always seem to team up well together! And she’s become a big fan of the blueberry cider that is on tap!

The blueberry hard cider at OG. Drink enough of these, and you just might turn into Violet Beauregard!

Other players I’ll have tonight besides Kim and I will be my husband Mike, in addition to Brad and Dave. I don’t think Kim has ever played in any games with Dave, so this should be interesting! Dave can be kind of a “button pusher,” if you will, so hopefully I don’t have to smack him one. Corporal punishment might not be in vogue in parenting circles or in public schools anymore, but when it comes to pub trivia? We’re sailing in international waters where there ARE no rules (LOL)!

We may be a bit shorthanded for the July 5 game, but I’m hoping that because it’s a holiday week, other teams might be shorthanded too! Hmmm, maybe I will see if my mom can join us that night!

In other trivia-related news, I have a team assembled to play in an ’80s movies theme night on Monday, July 9 at an old trivia haunt called the “Corner Brewery.”  So far I have four players lined up – me, Mike, Kim and David (boyfriend of Kirsten, a friend of Kim’s). I’m trying to recruit a fifth “Beatle” for this night, but don’t think I’ll have any takers!

Because playing in this theme night will force us to miss our regular trivia night at Powell’s Pub, we’ll be visiting a new My Trivia Live spot on Friday, July 6 called Bobby McShane’s in Belleville. Whether we win the ’80s theme night or not, it should be a fun set of questions and give me a chance to write a different kind of game recap! I’m thinking our team name will be “San Dimas High School Football Rules.” It’s a quote from Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure. It’s uttered by a dumb jock after he delivers a very, very half-assed oral history report.

In other news, my niece Anabel will be visiting from Houghton, MI later in July, and we may hit up a trivia game that weekend with her and her boyfriend, who will be attending the University of Michigan this fall. It will be good to have a couple of “millennials” in the mix! They will certainly be more knowledgeable about current music and movies than us “old fogeys!”

That’s about it for this “trivia update!” I’m going to try to get the recap from tonight’s game posted tonight, since we will have furnace/air conditioning installers coming to our house Friday morning. It will not be posted any earlier than midnight. As always, thanks for reading!
