Finish Line In Sight at Original Gravity…Time For Some “Strategy!”

I just got done looking at scores for the spring/summer 2017 trivia season at Original Gravity and compared them to the current scores. We’re not doing quite as well last year at this time –  we’re sitting in fourth place in the bar’s standings at seven games in, six games to go (not counting the end of season “venue tournament”).

Last year, we were in third place at this point in the season, with only about 11 league points dividing us from the top team, which at the time was team Mellows (who wound up being surpassed by More Beer Less Pants by the season’s end). We made a nice comeback toward the end, winding up just barely in second place by the time game #13 rolled around. This time around, we have a bit more of an  “uphill” climb, with 31 league points dividing us at the top team This Is Sparta. Though we may not be able to overtake them, or finish any higher than third going into the venue tournament this time? I HAVE to believe we can still win the season here and take it all at the venue tournament! I honestly can’t think any other way .  I have players lined up for the venue tournament, I’ve been in talks with players who can help in the last six games…there is no “try,” we are going to HAVE to do this! I’ll have a full team of all women for the June 21 game, and for this week’s game…(drum roll)…

We’ll have Brad joining us at Original Gravity for the first time this season! I’ve been loathe to bring him out to games, since I’m not a fan of having to providing taxi service for trivia players unless it’s a tournament game. It was also inconvenient to do because of Mike and I liking to take pre-game “walks” around town before games, which we can’t do with a passenger in tow.  But (sigh), sacrifices sometimes have to be made in trivia warfare, don’t they? He promised me he’d play at least two games (besides the venue tournament), and I’m holding him to it! I don’t like having to make players walk the plank, but…

Don’t get me wrong, I like that it’s become as competitive as it is here! This Is Sparta has been on kind of a “hot” streak as of late, and we’ve only managed to have two nights this season where we finished as “top dogs” for the night. We have been a bit handicapped in terms of getting enough players, (and not just because I don’t like being Brad’s taxi service, lol), but Dave requesting to take a break from trivia was kind of a poorly timed surprise, too. Add to that the fact this trivia spot is a bit of a drive compared to the spots we normally play in our ”hood.”

I’ll do my absolute best to get as many “hands on deck” for these final games! It’s never been part of our “playbook” to be top dogs at a trivia spot throughout a season AND also win a spot at the end – why would we start doing that now? Never, ever underestimate us, I like to say! 🙂
