First night of the My Trivia Live season at Powell’s Pub Monday. The bar was a bit busier than usual, probably because nothing gets Michigan people out of their houses – and into bars – like the first signs of warm weather! We finished in second overall for the night (behind two teams tied for first) with 58 points, flunked a tough final questions that stumped all of the teams in the bar. We had a whopping three players instead of our usual two, with Brad coming out to join the fun! We won a $10 gift certificate which was a nice consolation prize for having flubbed a couple of answers unnecessarily! We’ll shake that off since it’s the first game of the season…and here are the rest of the questions (some of which we didn’t miss)!

Round Two
1. Fruit – What is the name of the type of apple that shares its name with the girlfriends of the T-Birds in “Grease?” I recently read an article about the 40th anniversary of this musical. Trivia players, be prepared for future trivia questions about this in the next year! 5
2. Firsts – Before finding fame as a poet, who was San Francisco’s female African American conductor? We had a choice of two, went with our first choice with success, 1.
3. Diseases – Trichinosis is a disease most commonly associated with the consumption of what type of meat in a raw or undercooked state? For an extra three point bonus, what disease was declared officially eradicated by the World Organization of Animal Health in 2011, the first time a disease was declared eradicated since smallpox? Did not attempt the bonus, and we’re glad we didn’t! If anyone wants the answer to this one, look in the comments..
Round Three
1. U.S. Presidents – Which U.S. president was the first divorced president in the White House? Miss for 5, we had this confused with an earlier president with a second similar “distinction.” Boo! This was my bad…ouch! Believe me, Mike will be reminding me of this flub for a while!
2. Golf – Which pro golfer was the first to win the master’s tournament four times in 1964? 1
3. Westerns – What is the highest-grossing Western film of all time? Host George gave the hint on the mic that he didn’t think this was considered a Western…Mike the hero here for 3 (nicely done)!

Final Category – U.S. Cities

Wisely wagered zero on this one…I don’t think any teams got this.

Well that’s it for our first game recap of the season! Our next game is planned for Thursday at Original Gravity Brewing Co., so look for that recap on Friday. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Cavity Sam!
Answer to the disease bonus question was “rinderpest,” which I originally misheard to be “ringerpest.” I made up my own definition to this word to mean “annoying/obnoxious trivia ringer kept around by a trivia team only because of their ability to answer questions and not because of any underlying friendship.” Thankfully I don’t have any such creatures on my trivia team (though I certainly wound’t mind having a trivia ringer)!
