We have two more chances to qualify for the Sporcle Live league championship. Unfortunately, we did not win the top spot tonight, but we didn’t really expect to…a trivia team that we scared off from another trivia spot two years ago wound up being the victors tonight, which will make this the first Sporcle finals they have ever managed to attend! We did win a $20 gift card (the first $20 gift card we’ve won all season here), and the first gift card we’ve won since Valentine’s Day! This has really been a tough trivia spot this season! Time to breathe a sigh of relief…whew!
We have two more chances to qualify – Saturday night at Oscar’s in Saline – and if we fail there, we can use the “play-in game” option Friday, April 13 at the Pretzel Bell in Ann Arbor. We’re not going down without a fight!
I’ll post a full recap of this game on Thursday afternoon, but just as a little “blog exclusive,” here are some of the tougher questions from tonight (you’re welcome)!
Crashes – According to data from State Farm, West Virginia is the U.S. state where a driver is most likely to have a collision with what? Miss.
2000s Movies – The second highest grossing movie of 2009 at the U.S. box office behind Avatar was a sequel in what film franchise?
Sports Venues – Opened in 1983, the Scotiabank Saddledome is the oldest NHL arena in Canada and is the home ice for which team? Our Canada expert Brad came through big on this one…
World’s Fair – What country has hosted the World’s Fair more than any other country, doing so first in 1876 and most recently in 1984? Miss.
Country Music – What country music duo had #1 hits in the 2000s with the songs, “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” “Something to be Proud Of,” and “Lucky Man?” Miss.
Families – King Randor and Queen Marlena are the parents of two children in what media franchise that debuted in the 1980s? Name either of those children. Miss…
Mystery 1:
Five active NBA players have made at least 245 three-point shots in a single season. One is Isiah Thomas. Name the other four. Got two of these correct.
Game two went much, much better for us… (only three misses in regular round, one miss in mystery round)
TV Characters – Townsend Coleman, Patrick Warburton and Peter Serufinowicz have all voiced or portrayed what title character on television?
Gaming – What game has had expansions named Urgas Saga, Champions of Kamigawa, Shards of Alcera and Battle for Zendikar? Miss.
Movie Taglines – what ’90 film used the tagline, “They say there’s nothing new under the sun…but under the ground?”
Companies – Greene King, Marston’s and Wells and Young are all companies based in the United Kingdom that specialize in what product? Miss. If you ain’t a Brit or a serious Anglophile, you probably ain’t gonna know this…
Cities – What is the most populous city that borders Lake Ontario? Miss.
Mystery (twelve teams missed all of these…)
Out of the following lists of movies, name the movie that won the Academy Award for best picture in the same year all of those movies were released. All of these movies were nominated for best picture, but did not win.

Robert DeNiro in The Mission. I am shameless…(but it’s my blog and I’ll post pictures of shirtless long-haired actors if I want to!)
- Fargo, Jerry Maguire, Shine
- Life of Pi, Django Unchained, Lincoln
- Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Munich
- Children of a Lesser God, the Mission, Room With a View
We missed #4, I was two years off on this release year. But we were only team to have gotten six points out of this round! Nice teamwork between Evan and I on this one…he checked me on #1 (nice having the movies help)!
Y’all will have to wait for the rest of these questions! Check in for that recap on Thursday!
