Shout out to Kevin’s team Ennui for finishing this Sporcle Live season in first place Wednesday at Arbor Brewing Company! As for us, we finished in seventh in the overall standings, and missed two season games. We’ll come out for one final trivia battle here next Wednesday, which will be the “venue tournament,” from which the winner will advance to finals April 15. After that, we’ll be taking a breather during the two Sporcle bye weeks, and move on to different trivia spots for the summer season. Though as a smaller team (typically only about four players) we did “OK” playing here, Corner Brewery is kind of known for being a place for larger teams to really thrive during the regular season. The larger teams tend to win the gift card prizes more, and at the end, tend to have the most league points going into the final game. Size really does matter at Corner – the top four teams in the standings typically fielded seven players or more (on average) every week. It will be kind of weird seeing a bunch of teams with only five players maximum next week! But that’s another chapter that will have to wait until next week! And here I go with the questions…
Game One
1. Wars – Fought in the 20th Century, the Second Indochina War is better known by what name? 10
2. Juice – What line of juices features actress Jane Krakowski and is named, in part, because it has less sugar and calories than regular juice? I put in my suggestion for the answer, and nobody knew what it was. Blank stares all around. We still wound up sticking with it though, and it was correct (but for only 2 points).
3. Actors – Rapper and actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. portrayed his father in what 2015 biopic? For an additional nerd bonus, what was his father’s name? Miss for 4.
4. Architecture – Angle, lateral and flying are all types of what architectural stucture that gives support or stability to a wall? 9
5. Settlements – L’Anse Aux Meadows is an archeological site of a former Viking settlement and is located in what is now what country? A bit of debate, but got this for 5.
6. Famous Pets – What kind of animal is Bubbles, who was Michael Jackson’s pet and companion until 2004? 8
7. Rivalries – Name one of the two SEC schools that compete in the college football rivalry known as “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry?” Miss for 1.
8. TV Openings – Audio clue of TV theme from ’90s series
9. Food – What is the four letter French term for a paste or spread usually served as an hors d’oeuvres? Ick. Pass…(would rather starve than eat this). Got this for 6.
10. Nursery Rhymes – In one version of a popular nursery rhyme, what kind of animal is chased around a mulberry bush by a monkey? I’m glad my teammates were all over this (whew)!
Mystery – This Day In History
On this day in…
1. 1979 – An accident occurred on Three-Mile Island’s nuclear power plant in what U.S. state?
2. 1969 – What former U.S. president died at age 78?
3. 1984 – What NFL franchise moved to a new city in the middle of the night without public notice?
4. 1834 – Which U.S. president was censured by Congress for failing to turn over documents?
We were one of only five teams to get all of these correct, woot!
Scores – Twenty-two teams, scores 33 to 66, with Your Resume Sucks in first. We were in fourth with 61 points, tied with Jesus Chris Superstar and Macho Nachos.
Final Category – Children’s TV
What is the exact title of the Nickelodeon TV series that aired original episodes from 2005 to 2011, and had a jaguar sidekick, a helpful llama, and two troublesome spider monkeys as recurring characters?
Good news is we put down the correct name of a children’s series. Just not the right series…
Final Scores: ???, 78; Ennui, 81 and Glitter, 82 (moved up from 13th place – I LOVE it when virtually unknown teams win first here for a change!)
Game Two
1. Species Names – What species of archaic humans have a nickname meaning “upright man?” Commence snickering by Brad…10
2 Gaming – The game “World Class Track Meet” was released alongside what NES accessory? We were close but no cigar on this name, miss for 1.
3. Film Series – Retired CIA field agent Bryan Mills is the central character in what film series? Dates were given with this, did not write them all down, the first in this series released in 2008.
4. City Nicknames – What major Midwestern city is nicknamed “City of Fountains?” We were torn between two, and Brad said that he recently visited one of these cities and said, “I don’t remember there being any fountains there.” So we went with the other one – which was correct for 2.
5. ’90s Hits – Name one of the top 10 hits by Sugar Ray, both of which were released as singles in 1999, following their success with “Fly?” Miss for 3.
6. Sports – Sweep and sculling are two forms of what sports that has been contested at summer Olympic games since 1900? 8

Visual Mystery –

Got all of these.
Scores – Twenty one teams, scores 21 to 59, with Sabertooth Crotch Crickets in first. We were in ninth with 46 points.
Final Category – SCIENCE!
Yes, we were happy to get a science final category!
What two-word term was coined by James Thomson in 1873 to describe the temperature and pressure at which a gas, liquid, and solid can coexist in equilibrium?
Nope, though we really, really tried on this…well played, Sporcle! Well played! You win this round!
Standings: YRS, Macho Nachos, Ennui (did not write down their scores).
