Trivia Recap – March 15, 2018 – Corner Brewery

The name of one college football coach was enough to cause us to miss the final question in game two, sink one place in the bar’s standings and lose out on a chance at winning prize money in our Sporcle Live trivia game Wednesday at Arbor Brewing Company (Ypsilanti). We (well, specifically Brad) managed to name three coaches for this question:
As of the end of the 2017 season, only four active college football head coaches have won a BCS or College Football Playoff national championship.
Name three of those four coaches, who have combined to win the last seven, and nine of the last ten.
Only problem was, our bar had to name all FOUR of those coaches! Brad said he knew the correct college for the coach he missed, just couldn’t come up with his name. Sporcle With Tim frequently makes the final questions at the “Corner Brewery” more difficult, which he has said he does because of the tight scores, multiple ties, etc. Maybe we’re just not cut out for his brand of “advanced placement” trivia, lol! Is there a “remedial” trivia spot we can hit up so that we can feel super smart?
Oh well, we only have three games to go until our “wild card” trivia adventures begin! At the beginning of each week, I’ll spin the wheel to determine when/where our Sporcle Live game will be…if it will be anywhere! It might not be an actual “wheel,” but more like picking the night/location that seems to work best for that particular week. Summer will be a great time for having as few trivia commitments as possible!
As for the game, we lost out on a third place prize in game one in a tiebreaker, finished with 121 points for the night. We are now in sixth place in the bar’s standings, 10 league points behind the public lice team (Sabertooth Crotch Crickets). And here…are…the questions!

Final Category – U.S. Cities
Five of the 15 most populous cities in the U.S. are in states that do NOT border an ocean or the Gulf of Mexico.
Name four of those five cities. Only four, Tim? Why didn’t you make us name all five? What was WITH this brief moment of compassion?  JK…JK!
Got it, which put us in this tiebreaker with Ennui: In what year was the board game Risk released? Ennui’s guess was closer, they received a $5 gift card. Pubic Lice (SCC) finished second with 82, Your Resume Sucks finished first with 84.

Missed #1 and #4. Overthought #1, and missed #4 on a virtual coin toss.
Scores – 21 teams, scores 25 to 64, with SCC and Ennui tied for first. We were tied for fifth with 60 points with team Red, White and Blue (not sure of of their whole name).
Final Category – College Football
As of the end of the 2017 season, only four active college football head coaches have won a BCS or College Football Playoff national championship.
Name those four coaches, who have combined to win the last seven, and nine of the last ten.
There was absolutely no discussion of wagering zero on this. Mike, John and I abandoned the table and left Brad alone to do battle with this question. Very nice try, Brad! 🙂
Standings: Money Badgers, 79; Macho Nachos/YRS, 82; SCC, 84. MN and YRS had to settle this tiebreaker for the $10 prize: What is the straight line distance between Milwaukee and Boise? YRS’ guess was closest, they took the prize.
Well that’s it for trivia this week! We’ll be back at it Monday at Powell’s. St. Patrick’s Day is Saturday, and we don’t plan on going out for trivia that night. As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Emma Stone!
