Trivia Recap – March 7, 2018 – Corner Brewery

Because it was just not a good night to summon a team, we didn’t play Wednesday’s Sporcle Live game at Arbor Brewing Company (Ypsilanti). Thanks to Matt from the Toledo team Steele Trap for typing these up! If any of these questions differ from the ones that were asked, maybe Kevin or Sporcle With Tim can chime in!

I’m going to “play along’ to see how I would’ve done on these questions by myself…I’ll indicate “yup” or “nope” (or some variation thereof) to indicate whether I’d know these…

Game One
1. TV Characters: Crane, Mills, and Irving are the last names of characters on what Fox supernatural drama that aired from 2013 to 2017?
Yeah, baby! The Crane guy was…kinda hot! 🙂 Didn’t stick with this series, though, it kinda lost me after a while.

As cute as the “Crane” character was to watch, this series didn’t wind up holding my interest after it went off the deep end in season 2 (imho).
2. Super Bowl Ads: Chris Hemsworth, Danny McBride, and Paul Hogan all appeared in a 2018 Super Bowl ad promoting tourism in what country? If this ain’t the “Land Down Under,” then pour a whole oil can of Foster’s over my head right now!

3. Poetry: Walt Whitman’s poem “O Captain! My Captain!” was written about the death of what American? Yup.

4. 2000s Movies: A 2000 film starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, and Jon Bon Jovi is largely set aboard what type of watercraft? Bonus for the film’s title.
No idea. But I’ll bet Kimberly might know this one!

5. Old Places: The Tiergarten Schöbrunn, located in Vienna, Austria, is the world’s oldest continually operating what: theme park, zoo, restaurant, or stadium?
Nope…

6. Summer Olympics: What Summer Olympics sport currently has only a women’s team event and a women’s duet event with Russia, Canada, and the United States winning every gold medal since 1984?
Huh? Duet? Are they singing in the Olympics now? No clue.

7. #1 Hits: What 1981 single by Kim Carnes spent nine weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won multiple Grammy Awards?
Yup. Did she have any OTHER charting singles?

8. City Names: What southwest US city has a name that translates to English as “The Meadows?”
Nada…

9. Games: Mr. Boddy is an unplayable character in the North American version of what board game?
No “clue.” See what I did there?

10. Channels: The reality TV series American Chopper aired on two different channels during its run from 2003 to 2010. Name one of them.
Nope.

Mystery Round: Big States – identify the largest US state by total area that borders the given state
1. Arizona
2. Georgia
3. New Jersey
4. Montana

Missed #4.

Final Category: The Supreme Court
Final Question: Three current members of the US Supreme Court began their tenures during the 1990s. Name two of them.

Game Two
1. Candy: What lollipops with a bubblegum center were first introduced by the Charms Candy Company?
This was an easy FB clue, apparently..yup.

2. 80s Albums: What is the title of the 1984 studio album by Bruce Springsteen that includes a single of the same name?
Yup. My own “bonus”…What 1982 Springsteen album shares its name with the 16th largest U.S. state by area?
3. Business: What 12 letter word can describe the combination of two or more corporations engaged in entirely different businesses that fall under one corporate group?
Yup.

4. Art: What pink reddish color lends its name to a period of Pablo Picasso’s art that lasted from 1904 to 1906?
Yup.

5. Movie Elections: Name one of the two actors who play characters running for mayor in the 2004 film Welcome to Mooseport. Bonus for both. Yup on both.

6. Pro Wrestlers: Audio clip of a multiple time world champion and Royal Rumble winner talking about how he “screwed” Bret Hart. Can’t hear it, so can’t say! But if Brad, Mike, John or Dave heard this, they’d probably spot it.

7. Computers: The file extension .wma is associated with applications developed by what company? Nope on my own, but people on my team would be all over it…

8. Mining: What is the name of the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks in order to extract oil or gas? Yup.

Final Category: Foreign Music

Final Question: Gorky Park and t.A.T.u. are among the few artists from what country that have had charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100?

This question was reportedly made harder at Corner Brewery by knowing only the titles of songs by these artists (at least that’s how I understand it).

Tiebreaker: Bryan Cranston and Laura Prepon share March 7 as their birthday. How many years apart were they born?

I didn’t think Laura Prepon was that young…would’ve failed that tiebreaker, though I was only off on Bryan Cranston’s birth year by two!

Stay tuned! I’ll have a recap of Wednesday’s game at the Wurst Bar posted soon!
