We’ll be taking a more “casual” trivia approach next season – at least in one of the leagues that we’ve been playing. I’m very, very excited about this! We’ve been hitting the pavement pretty hard the past few years in our quests for trivia supremacy. We managed to win a first place MTL tournament prize for the first time in July, 2017. But now, the time has come to…step back. But only a LITTLE bit! I want to “smell the roses” for a bit.
The weekly MTL games at Powell’s Pub on Mondays will continue. As for what night we play in the Sporcle Live trivia league? Well, beginning the week of April 23, that depends on the week, my work schedule, the weather, moon phases, how exhausted I feel, etc. I don’t want to be “tied” to going to games on nights I just don’t feel like playing. Or if a really, really nice night presents itself, I’d much rather enjoy some time outside than sit indoors answering trivia questions! And some nights are just better for melting into the couch and watching TV!
Rest assured…I’m far too much of a trivia junkie to be giving it up! All I want is some flexibility. I have a lot of spots I enjoy playing in, and I don’t want to have to pick “just one” – and I certainly don’t have the time/energy to play ’em all! Maybe Original Gravity Thursdays will work great on one week, but not so great on another week. I’ll probably want to do Corner games on Wednesdays every now and then. Maybe on some weeks, a Tuesday – or Saturday game will work best. And I still want to meet with Kim for “just us girls” trivia and “name that tune” games, so maybe those weeks would be good for just giving the rest of the team a little break.
I’m not going to concern myself with trying to advance my team to tournaments in both leagues, at least for one season. We will continue to be contenders in the MTL league, which works out well, since I think my team is a bit stronger in this league. My team hasn’t managed to make any real noise at any Sporcle Live finals since 2013, when we won a measly $150. Though I did hire some “stunt doubles” to play for us in 2016, and those bastards wound up winning $750! Wow…that was a wake-up call! Sub out your whole team… and win money? Sure, it can be fun to try getting to the “big dance,” but there comes a point when other priorities have to reign supreme. And there’s no bigger priority for me than going out to a trivia game because I want to…not because I feel I “have” to! I am confident my team will be on board with this plan. I look forward to a very leisurely summer for trivia games – or whatever else I feel like doing!
