Editor’s Note: This is a trivia recap written by the Toledo Sporcle Live team Steele Trap. We did not play in any trivia games that night. All commentary is by their recap writer. I will include my commentary in italics, indicating whether I would know these answers…or not!
Saturday night at Ralphie’s Oregon was…interesting. In the middle of game two, a couple of drunk idiots took issue with the notion that it was reasonable to ask them to stop cursing loudly since there were kids at the table next to them. Shouting and then lunging occurred. Eventually, said drunk idiots were shown the door. Six years of bar trivia, and we haven’t seen such belligerence before. It would be nice if we didn’t see it again.
As for the trivia, we had a good night, missing a total of four points all night. Unfortunately, we missed one point too many in game one and had to settle for second. Game two, on the other hand, was all ours.
Game One
1. Magazines: What magazine, first published in 1967, has used the slogan “All the News that Fits,” even though it primarily has stories of music and politics?
**Got this for a cautious bet of 3.
Yup, know this one.
2. Baseball Rules: Within one, in what year was the most recent MLB All Star Game that determine home field advantage for that year’s World Series?
**Again, cautious, but got this for 6.
Ugh, sportsball…no. Would not know this one on my own!
3. TV Winners: In 2004, Bill Rancic became the first winner of which reality competition show?
**Matt actually watched this back then. Got it for 10.
Nope.
4. Candy: Name two of the three colors of plain M&Ms that have been continuously in use since 1941. Nerd bonus for all three.
**Came up with a list of four possibilities. Correctly picked the right three..
Nope, miss.
5. Nicknames: What is the capital of the US state nicknamed the North Star State?
**Earned 5 on this one. A lot of other teams fell victim to the pitfall that we avoided. The state that has the North Star on its flag is NOT the North Star State.
Yup.
6. Accessories: Hogan’s Alley, Gotcha! The Sport!, and Laser Invasion were three of the games released for the Nintendo Entertainment System that used which accessory?
Nope.
7. One Hit Wonders: Audio clip of some 2012 song we’ve never heard before. Had to name the common household food item that is in the title of the single as well as the name of the Spanish pop group.
**Two teams got this and they knew it instantly. The rest of us were proud for NOT knowing this. Dropped the 1.
Nope.
8. Currency: Which of the following countries does not use the euro as its official currency: Estonia, Monaco, the Netherlands, or Switzerland?
Yup, made right guess.
9. 70s Movies: What 1974 comedy film starring Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, and Madeline Kahn received three Academy Award nominations?
**Could have stopped after “Cleavon Little.”
Trivia 101…
10. Fraud: What five letter word beginning with the letter P describes the kind of scheme that allowed Bernie Madoff to defraud people out of $65 million?
**Did we really need to know what letter the word started with?
Yup.

Final Question: The Georgian Affair of 1922 involved tensions between two prominent leaders of Russia. Name one of them.
**Easy question, right? Yeah…the sad part is that MC Matt actually made this more difficult than originally written. It originally asked what the country was involved in the Georgian Affair. We kind of wished we had been asked for BOTH leaders…however, that really wasn’t too tough either.
Final Standings: Princess Consuela Bananahammock 85, Steele Trap 80, Very Stable Geniuses 74
I already viewed these final questions, so not going to pretend whether I know ’em or not!

**Got one for max points, but couldn’t think of the other.
THERE WAS A TEARS FOR FEARS QUESTION WHEN I WAS NOT PLAYING? THE HUMANITY! NOW I KNOW HOW SCOTT FELT WHEN THEY ASKED ABOUT KNIGHT RIDER WHEN HE WAS NOT PLAYING! Would have missed bonus point on this and put “Head Over Heels” for the other song, which is one of my favorites.
4. Nemeses: In works by Arthur Conan Doyle, Colonel Sebastian Moran serves as the sidekick for what nemesis of Sherlock Holmes?

7. Actors: Name either of the 21st century films with Kevin Costner in a credited role that grossed at least $200 million at the US box office.
