Welcome to a very special “time capsule” game recap! We played in the My Trivia Live finals on Saturday, and so we’re going to flash back to the year 1972 – specifically the top billboard hits of this week in 1972! It’s just a silly thing I’m doing for my birthday today…it’s nice to shake up the trivia recap routines from time to time! Anyway, the top three hits this week back in 1972 were Nilsson’s “Without You,” “American Pie – Parts 1 and 2,” and “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green. This means One is the Loneliest Number was “Without You,” team Liquor Cabinet was “American Pie,” and the Soul Men were “Let’s Stay Together.” This is kind of fitting since that was a soul song! As for us, we were in “about” the 13th chart position heading into the final, but since we missed the final question, were not quite able to move up higher on the charts! We’re only hoping we didn’t plummet to as far as #40 (there were about 40 teams playing that day at The Library Pub in Novi). If you’re going to read on, you might want to put on a flare-legged jumpsuit if you’re a woman – and maybe a plaid sportcoat with a turtleneck if you’re a guy!Β If you’re female and know anyone who is into the schoolgirl look (seriously…what hetero guy ISN’T into that look…amirite) – you COULD put on something like this…

Don’t poke someone’s eye out with that collar, girl!
And let’s see those questions, which will be very, very abbreviated.
1. Occupations – Name shared by track maintenance worker and Ann Arbor restaurant – 5
2. Celebrities – Actor and cousin of Sissy Spacek who helped launch her acting career – miss for 1.
3. TV – HBO series debuting in 2014 starring Matthew McConnaughey and Woody Harrelson, Archie all over this for 3.
Round Two
1. Presidents – First president with a middle name? 5
2. Music – Alternative artist who released a song book called “Song Reader” in 2012, which featured sheet music and art? Miss for 1. Discussed right person.
3. Olympics – What do letters OAR stand for in winter Olympics parlance? Brad for the points.
Round Three (you may want to go over to the record player and move the stylus up three tracks, since the next tracks are just awful! Be sure not to bump the record player while you’re walking over there!)
1. Law – Name for formal inquiry using oral or written questions (sorry this is really abbreviated, I’m heading out to lunch very soon, I can fill in the details of this one later if anyone really, really needs to know this full question), miss for 3.
2. Advertisement – Director of 1984 Super Bowl ad with “1984” book theme, miss for 1.
3. Soaps – Name three of four longest-running soaps still airing on daytime TV, miss for 5.
See? I told you these would be awful for us! Let’s see if we gain some ground with the halftime questions!
Halftime – Sci-Fi Movie Quotes
Give name of both the actor and movies.
1. 1986 – “Game over, man.”
2. 1986 – “No – be afraid – be very afraid.”
3. 1997 – “Wait a minute. You just flash that thing, it erases her memory, and you just make up a new one?”
4. 2015 – “Chewy, we’re home.”
We missed #2 – had right movie, not right person.
We were in 23rd place heading into the second half. Team We Concur was in first.
Round Four
1. Sports – Baseball great Jackie Robinson was born the same year as what U.S. president who died – and was named in his honor? Miss for 2, though right guy discussed. Bully!
2. Alcohol – What color is absinthe (besides clear)? 6
3. Books – What 1865 book featuring talking animals was banned in China in 1931 on the grounds that animals should not use human language? got for 4.
Round Five
1. Music – What music company’s copyright for “Happy Birthday to You” was ruled invalid in 2016 which now puts the song in the public domain? So this means you can sing it to me today without having to pay a royalty, lol! Miss for 2.
2. Money – Before the introduction of the Euro, what was the basic unit of currency in Luxembourg? Made right choice of 2.
3. Sharks – What shark, whose name is derived from the Greek for “big tooth” was known for being the largest shark on Earth, though it is now extinct? Brad the zoologist the hero hero here for 6.
Round Six
1. Food – In what country are papusas, which are thick, hand-made stuffed tortillas, a traditional dish? Miss for 2.
2. Astronomy – The largest volcano ever discovered in our solar system can be found on what planet? 6
3. Words – What word describes a skilled person making things by hand or a drink/food also made by hand with quality ingredients? An excuse to charge more for it, lol…(and this word is so overused).
We moved up a bit in the second half, and only had 12 teams ahead of us, which means that if we were a 1972 song we’d be “Anticipation” by Carly Simon. And I actually like that song! I’ll take that as a nice little birthday present. Though not as nice as trivia prize money (whine). Oh well, can’t win ’em all!

Final Category – Business
The newly-formed Hewlett Packard company sold eight audio oscillators to what company in 1939 to use as a test for surround sound for an upcoming film?
Nope, we did not get this, and the top three teams did. No major changes in “chart positions.” And that’s the story of the MTL finals! I’ll see y’all in the next recap, which will be on Monday since I get to (hopefully) go out for a trivia game tonight! Unless Mateo has something to say about it (curse you, Mateo…it took us an HOUR to get to this tournament when it should have only taken about 35 minutes). As always, Go Pods, and stay classy, Rip Torn!
