Up until about a week ago, I had no idea I would be doing a “trivia booty call” for players to come out for a Wednesday Sporcle Live game at Arbor Brewing Company-Ypsilanti (nee “Corner Brewery” as its known to the locals). Some of our players seem happy to hear the news, though, so if that doesn’t mean the stars look right, I don’t know what does! I also had no idea I would be telling the team to plan on playing here for an entire season (yes, you read that right). We haven’t played at “The Corner Brewery” regularly since 2015. We began playing at “Corner” in 2012, when Great Lakes Trivia started offering shows in February of that year. We were the bar’s very first “venue leaders,” and we didn’t even know that until the trivia host told us – and gave us information about a semifinal game at the Arena (now the Haymaker Bar)! We didn’t manage to qualify for finals in that ill-fated semifinal game, but it was a good experience for all of us. If nothing else, it let us know what we needed to work on to better bring our “A” game – which essentially meant we needed to work on EVERYTHING!
Our last game of the My Trivia Live season at the Wurst Bar is tonight, but we are far enough ahead in the bar’s overall standings to be able to miss this game and still qualify for semifinals Feb. 3. The MTL games will continue beginning Jan. 15 on Monday nights at Powell’s Pub, which is a place we’ve played semi-regularly, but we have not yet attempted to dominate its trivia scene. First time for everything? Test our trivia mettle? Why not! We’re not certain whether we will play at Wurst regularly again, we’ll re-evaluate when the new MTL season starts up in May, and put it to a vote of our players. JK, our team is NOT a democracy! Perish that thought! Well, it KINDA is…, but it’s more like a semi-benevolent dictatorship with various little warring factions!

Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, who was NOT a benevolent dictator! Ask the Soviet Union, who refused to send their national soccer team here in a World Cup qualifying match in 1973 because they were terrified about the stuff that was going on in Chile. Now, when you terrify the SOVIET UNION with your human rights abuses? You are NOT a benevolent dictator! Read more about that here
Seriously, “semi-benevolent dictatorship with several warring factions” is kind of an accurate description of my trivia team …
😏As always, Go Pods!
