Past trivia questions that caused our players to make an “O” face

It seems really, really weird not to be doing a recap of Wednesday’s trivia game. Instead, here’s a look back at some of our best “triviagasm” moments while playing trivia! What’s a “triviagasm,” you ask? Why it’s a trivia question typically known by only one player on a team or one that is also known by only one or very few other players in the bar. The question could involve a category that is a “pet” category for the player that is rarely asked about. And yes, the word is “kind of” inspired by the word “shoegasm” used in that one TV show with all of those women. What was that called again? City Sex? Massive debt and the single woman? Mr. Big’s Wild Ride With Carrie Bradshaw? Am I getting warmer?
Yes, this is kind of a cop out, and you’re essentially getting a “rerun.” Without further ado…here are some of those questions that gave our players the “O” face!
1. Movie Characters – (Audio) What is the first name of the lead character from Army of Darkness? Triviagasm for Mike, woot! From June 28, 2016 game, Heidelberg, Ann Arbor.
1. Sports Rivalries – What two NHL teams have a rivalry known as the Battle of Alberta? YAY I GOT THIS for 7! Almost as exciting as when I came up with Bobby Orr’s name on a hockey question way back when when i was the “ranking” sports player at the game. Total “triviagasm,” lol…July 12, 2016, Heidelberg, Ann Arbor.
3. SCIENCE! news – What is the name of the dwarf star located in the Aquarius constellation found to host several terrestrial planets in February, 2017? And Mike was just as excited about answering this one as I was when they had the audio clue for “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” on Tuesday. #triviagasm Got this for 9. March 2, 2017, Original Gravity Brewing Company.
4. Audio – Identify the composer of “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina.” Yes, I had a “triviagasm” here, lol…February 28, 2017, Johnny’s Grill.
5. (Final Question, game two): Singer Jennifer Warnes’ only two #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart were both duets released in the 1980s.
Name the two singers with whom she performed those duets. Woot, got this….March 13, 2017, Maiz Mexican Cantina.
6.Books – Who is referenced in the title of a 1982 novella by Stephen King but not referenced in the title of the flm it inspired more than a decade later? My “triviagasm” moment… 8. Sporcle Live league championship, Aug. 6, 2017, 59 West.
7. Final Category – The Sound of Silence
Filmed in 1963, what is the second most recent silent film housed in the Library of Congress? I got so excited when I knew this one that I immediately scrawled my answer on a piece of paper, and Brad asked, “What’s that supposed to be?” Another joke about my horrible handwriting! Oct. 18, 2017 – The Wurst Bar.
8. Actors – Christian Bale extensively studied the mannerisms of what handsome powerhouse actor, born 55 years earlier, when preparing for his role as Patrick Bateman in “American Psycho?” This question was later clarified by stating that this actor is 55 years old now, not 55 years old when the film was released. Got this for 5. July 15, 2017, Applebee’s Taylor (MTL finals).
9. Native American actor Will Sampson is best known for appearing in what Best Picture-winning movie, which was based on a celebrated 1962 novel in which his character was the narrator? Final question, July 21, 2016, Original Gravity Brewing Co.
10. Final Question: Put these four birthstones in chronological order, from earliest to latest in a calendar year, according to the month with which they are traditionally associated: Amethyst, Turquoise, Diamond, Pearl. August 25, 2016, Original Gravity Brewing Co..
11. Final Question: In what 1990s animated movie did then-married couple Demi Moore and Bruce Willis provide the voices of characters named Dallas and Muddy Grimes? Aug 18, 2016, Original Gravity Brewing Co.
12. What former NHL player known for a particular defensive style of play helped lead his team to a Stanley Cup win in 1970? December 17, 2013, Red Rock Downtown Barbecue.
13. (Final Question): Actor Michael Peña holds the rare distinction of having appeared in movies that were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in three consecutive years. Two of them DID win Best Picture, and all films were released in the 21st century. Name ONE of them.
I am so thankful Evan was all over this (he was SO excited…). I have never heard of the guy. I was able to help out by naming best pictures around the time of the film he was thinking of. Oscar’s Sports Grill, November 4, 2017.
14. Final Question: The Missouri River provides part of the border for five states.
For two of those states, it is the only river that forms part of their border. Name those two states.
I tried thinking of states that had only one “riverish” border and it paid off. Woot! We NEVER get these questions right! Unfortunately, one team ahead of us got this, too: Oscar’s Sports Grill, Oct. 14, 2017.
That’s it for now! What questions will make us do the “O” face in future games? 🙂
